EMC creates 60 jobs in Cork

24 Nov 2004

Storage leader EMC is to create 60 new IT sales jobs in Cork by 2005 following the opening of a new solutions centre at its operations facility in Ovens, Cork. It is understood that the jobs were spawned from an original €26m in new facilities in the plant back in 2001.

According to a spokesperson for EMC, the new sales staff, known as the Inside Sales group, will compliment and support the EMC direct sales team and its channel by qualifying and generating sales leads as well as focus on customer service sales support. Positions will include sales positions with IT industry knowledge and European languages, technical support, database managers and business analysts.

The jobs announcement coincides with the opening by EMC of its Cork Solutions Centre, which will be used as a vehicle for the storage giant’s customers to enter a dedicated laboratory environment to allow execution of proof-of-concept during the pre-sales cycle. According to the company, it provides its customers with an opportunity to accelerate their understanding of EMC’s products and solutions in an environment that replicates their own IT infrastructures and solutions.

According to the director of the centre, Desmond O’Sullivan: “Our dedicated environment allows our customers to build out a proposed IT architecture and work with our highly skilled engineering staff to work through particular proof points.

“In this way, they can be happy that when they commit to EMC they will have a tried and tested solution to their IT and data management challenges. This involves typically a two week engagement with the customer’s team, which allows them to explore every aspect of the proposed solution with our own subject matter experts,” O’Sullivan said.

The centre comprises three dedicated customer briefing rooms and a 5,500 sq ft of best-of-breed data centre containing the latest hardware and software product offerings from EMC and its partners.

EMC vice-president of technical services operations, Don Swatik, commented: “This centre will serve as a showcase of the innovative ways that EMC can help customers address their most pressing business challenges and deploy an infrastructure that supports an information lifecycle management strategy.”
