The EU Commissioner responsible for R&D, Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, has revealed the EU will reveil a strategic science and technology action plan called Europe 2020 to steer Europe through the recession.
Geoghegan-Quinn said Europe is at a crossroads and a plan is needed to guide the region through to recovery.
“After the worst economic crisis in decades, we face tough economic times over the next few years.
“But we also have an unprecedented opportunity to cement recovery, and to move towards the green, social market economy of the future.”
She said the Commission will in March propose a strategic action plan called Europe 2020.
