Fears grow for jobs at midlands medical-devices plant

Fears are growing for jobs at a medical devices company in the midlands.

Management is due to brief workers at the Covidien plant in Tullamore, Co Offaly, this afternoon.

According to reports, the company may be seeking as many as 100-200 redundancies.

Covidien is the major employer in Tullamore, with some 650 people working at the plant.

Covidien is a US$10bn global provider of medical devices, supplies and pharmaceuticals. The company employs more than 40,000 people worldwide.
