HP is moving a substantial number of its Irish workforce from its operations in Clonskeagh to its Leixlip campus, a move that could involve up to 1,000 workers it emerged today. The company insisted that the consolidation will involve no redundancies.
The US$100.5bn IT giant employs over 4,500 people in Ireland at locations in Clonskeagh, Leixlip and at a software centre in Galway. It is understood that following the consolidation the bulk of HP’s Irish workforce will be based in Leixlip.
According to the company, the plan is to establish the Leixlip facility, aka the Liffey Park Technology Campus, as a strategic centre of excellence for HP worldwide and locally to achieve cost savings across the business.
The decision was communicated to HP’s workforce in Leixlip and Clonskeagh earlier today.
“The new campus will be distinguished by its unique combination of skills diversity and an innovative new work environment that further advances HP’s leadership in the Irish market,” HP Ireland general manager Martin Murphy (pictured) commented.
The existing Leixlip campus will become the corporate headquarters for HP in Ireland and the company will invest in new technologies and productivity tools.
While the majority of the 1,000 workers at the Clonskeagh operation will move to the Leixlip campus, around 300 IT workers involved in HP’s €600m outsourcing deal with Bank of Ireland are envisaged to remain in Clonskeagh.
Murphy said that when complete, the Liffey Park Technolgoy Campus will be one of the largest and most diverse technology campuses in Ireland, with 28 nationalities and over 24 languages represented.
