PC manufacturer HP will be making considerable headway in the 3D printing industry, with an announcement expected in June, the company’s CEO Meg Whitman said.
Whitman has been heard mentioning the plans as part of June’s “big technology announcement” in the company’s regular shareholders’ call to investors. She has yet to divulge exactly what will be a part of HP’s 3D printing plans, however.
Whitman also stated HP has solved issues it encountered in previous attempts to make major breakthroughs in the technology. She added she sees “the bigger market is going to be in the enterprise space”.
The first understanding that HP was getting involved in 3D printing came in February, when the company’s CTO, Martin Fink, spoke about how “HP is currently exploring the many possibilities of 3D printing and the company will play an important role in its development”.
However, the company is unlikely to be releasing home-size printers in a similar fashion to its laser jet variety, as most of the current technology still costs upwards of US$3,000.
