IBM to acquire business analytics firm’s software portfolio

5 Feb 2013

Tech giant IBM is to buy the software portfolio of business analytics company Star Analytics Inc for an undisclosed sum in an effort to boost its own business analytics initiatives.

Under the deal, organisations should be able to gain faster access and real-time insight into specialised data sources.

“IBM sees an enormous opportunity for our clients to apply Star Analytics to the information they have stored in their financial applications and to then easily access it within their IBM performance management and business intelligence solutions,” said Leslie J Rechan, general manager, IBM Business Analytics.

Quinlan Eddy, CEO, Star Analytics, said the company’s software allows organisations to move critical analytics source data at will and use it regardless of which application they need to use it with, providing both flexibility and accessibility.

“As part of IBM, we can now bring our technologies to a broader range of clients to help them uncover new, untapped growth opportunities,” Eddy said.

The acquisition is expected to close in the first quarter of 2013.
