Intel boosts outlook based on stronger chip demand

28 Aug 2009

As a result of stronger than expected demand for chips Intel said it expects its revenue for the third quarter to be US$9bn plus or minus US$200 compared to the original forecast of US$8.5bn.

Echoing Dell’s forecast today that second half demand in the computer industry will be stronger, Intel said it expects gross margin percentage for the third quarter to be in the upper half of 53pc plus or minus 2pc.

Intel, which employs 4,500 in Ireland, last month revealed that it is to cut 294 local jobs due to falling demand for 200mm-based chip products.

The company said that the changing economy does not affect the manufacture of 300mm-based chip products which are central to the future of the company.
