Intel CEO to advise US president on job creation

18 Feb 2011

Intel chief Paul Otellini will join the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness to help create job opportunities in the US, the White House said today.

US President Barack Obama created the council in January as part of government efforts to alleviate the stubbornly high 9pc unemployment rate.

Last month, it was announced that General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt would lead the new external board advising the White House on economic policy. The Obama administration said other members of the council will be named in the coming weeks. The board replaces an economic recovery advisory panel Obama named in 2009.

On the president’s two-day West Coast visit, he will visit Intel’s Hillsboro facility in Oregon with Otellini.

Obama had a meeting with Apple Inc CEO Steve Jobs and other Silicon Valley leaders outside San Francisco last night as part of a campaign to promote technological innovation as a means of improving the US economy and reducing unemployment.
