Irish entrepreneur buys Spanish lighting firm

An Irish entrepreneur has acquired Spanish LED lighting supplier Lita Lighting in a multimillion euro deal.

Sean Carty, managing director of Dublin-based Connect Electronics, bought the Madrid-based firm for an undisclosed sum, and has recently opened Lita Lighting offices in Dublin.

Lita Lighting employs nine staff in Ireland and plans additional recruitment across R&D, logistics, quality control and sales and marketing.

In addition to the Madrid and Dublin offices, Carty has established sales offices in the UK, Germany and the US.

Lita Lighting designs, manufactures and distributes energy-efficient and environmentally friendly LED (Light Emitting Diode) lighting devices for the retail, manufacturing, industrial, hospitality and service industries.

Carty says he wants to use Ireland’s skilled manufacturing workforce to produce a volume commercial LED light, which he claims has not been done for more than 30 years in this country.

Carty and Lita Lighting have been shortlisted for the 2010 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Emerging Category.
