Accenture's International Women's Day event at Dublin's Convention Centre
Silicon Republic attended Accenture’s International Women’s Day (IWD) event in Dublin’s Convention Centre to meet many of the STEM industry’s top talent.
We spoke with some of them, who were suitably impressed by what they heard from speakers calling out for greater involvement of women in industry.
When asked whether or not the gender imbalance in Ireland’s STEM scene is improving, there was a resounding attitude that we were, indeed, heading in the right direction.
“I really hope it will,” said 10-year-old Lauren Boyle, EU Digital Girl of the Year, “because technology is taking over the world … I hope it will.”
FoodCloud’s Isuelt Ward and Rhona Togher of Restored Hearing spoke of their experience within the new wave of young female entrepreneurs, with Lucy Masterson, head of development at Social Entrepreneurs Ireland, saying six of the nine projects that her organisation is supporting this year are led by women.
Women Invent Tomorrow is Silicon Republic’s campaign to champion the role of women in science, technology, engineering and maths.
