Jinny cracks US rural mobile market

Dublin mobile software firm Jinny Software has completed a major breakthrough messaging project for US rural wireless carrier Viaero Wireless in Colorado.

The system deployed by Jinny includes email, SMS, push and pull content and web-to-SMS messaging as well as helping Viaero resolve a number of existing mobile number portability issues.

The system has been handling live traffic since May.

The two companies struck a deal whereby Viaero would have complete flexibility in terms of the hardware it would source to deploy the system in return for becoming an early adopter of future releases of Jinny’s short message service centre (SMSC) software.

“We are especially appreciative of Viaero Wireless’s willingness to actively promote our products and services within the rural cellular community in North America,” said Fintan Supple, regional sales director with Jinny.

Viaero Wireless, previously known as NE Colorado Inc, provides rural wireless coverage to eastern Colorado and Greater Nebraska via GSM and GPRS/EDGE networks and reported 2006 revenues of US$44m.
