Jinny realigns to meet mobile media convergence

Jinny Software, the Irish-based provider of systems for mobile operators, has changed its business strategy and added new products to its range in order to focus on new messaging and media services.

The company said that the repositioning resulted from the trend where internet protocol is increasingly becoming the common transport mechanism for messaging on current and future mobile networks.

Jinny, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Italian Acotel group, now has four areas of service: messaging, media, routing and filtering and rating and charging. For example, the latter solution enables operators to rate and charge messages, ringtones, ringback tones, WAP browsing, games downloads and video streaming as well as offering subscribers tailored data price plans.

The company also plans to introduce additional platforms which will allow it to offer media and personalisation capabilities. In this case, customised services could be provided to a subscriber in real time, based on their preferences and on user profiles gained from contextual network data based on historic usage.

Jinny CEO Max Wilkie said that businesses and consumers would be more likely to choose network providers offering personalised multimedia interfaces.

“We believe that service providers will increasingly use IMS-based solutions to create fresh-value propositions to drive new revenue streams and to cut operational expenditure. Jinny’s repositioning and the additions to its product portfolio will enable service providers anywhere to deliver personalised messaging and media services to subscribers across all legacy, hybrid and future networks. Our product range, which is built to open standards, is designed to drive these new converged messaging revenues,” Wilkie said.
