LAN Communications has signed a three-year contract worth approximately €2m to supply network equipment to the Eastern Health Shared Services.
Under the terms of the deal, which was awarded under EU procurement directives, LAN Communications will supply LAN and WAN infrastructure equipment to the EHSS and provide two-hour, onsite support for associated network hardware. The contract covers health boards in Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow.
The network, which supports over 14,000 users in 240 remote locations, supports four clinical systems: accident & emergency, laboratory services, patient administration and radiology.
The awarding of the contract underpins EHSS’ efforts to implement a patient-centred ICT strategy and modernise the network infrastructure.
“Our network infrastructure has undergone significant development in recent times with huge growth in the deployment of new applications,” said Pat Thornton, IT manager, EHSS. “In particular, the provision of email and intranet services to staff has become even more critical and as the first in the healthcare sector to offer our users defined service level agreements, maximum network uptime is a top priority for us.”
The contract came into effect on 1 November last and will run until 2006.
LAN Communications, an Eircom subsidiary, has been working with the government and semi-state sectors since 1993.
