LinkedIn connects with Dublin via new global operation

The social networking service for professionals LinkedIn is to locate a new international headquarters in Dublin, joining Google, eBay and Facebook among the bevy of internet giants setting up shop in the city.

However, it has not revealed yet just how many jobs will be created on the ground.

The jobs are expected to include a variety of business and technology roles, including positions in sales, marketing, finance and customer service.

The company says it will manage its international expansion from Dublin, working with teams in London and the Netherlands.

LinkedIn’s California HQ will continue to serve as corporate headquarters while Dublin will drive the company’s international growth.

LinkedIn now has more than 14m members in Europe and 60m worldwide.

LinkedIn eyes European growth

The company says Dublin will give the company access to a highly skilled workforce and will enable it to grow its base in Europe and beyond.

Dublin is rapidly becoming the location of choice for next-generation internet companies. Google is continuing to expand its 1,500-strong operations while Facebook is adding new functions all the time and is doubling its Dublin workforce to 140 people.

In related news, social gaming company Zynga, the firm behind popular games like Farmville and Mafia Wars, which has already built up revenues of US$300m, is also planning to locate a new base in Dublin.

Yesterday, eBay expanded its Dublin operation with news of 150 new jobs.
