Revenue for business social network LinkedIn jumped 56pc to US$393m in its third quarter, compared to US$252m from the same period last year, and the number of members increased to more than 259m.

Revenue from the US hit US$245.3m, and represented 62pc of total revenue in the third quarter of 2013. Revenue from international markets amounted to US$147.7m, and reflected 38pc of total revenue in the third quarter of 2013.

The company’s net loss for the third quarter amounted to US$3.4m, whereas net income for the year-ago quarter totalled $2.3m.

Diluted earnings per share (EPS) for the third quarter came to $0.03.

Adjusted EBITDA for the third quarter reached US$92.8m, or 24pc of revenue, compared to US$56.0m for the third quarter of 2012, or 22pc of revenue.

The number of LinkedIn’s members also increased, to more than 259m, a rise of 38pc year-over-year.  The company said members engaged with the site at record levels across desktop and mobile devices, driven by LinkedIn’s investment in core products that improved how members manage their identities and networks, and how they consume and publish content.

“We continue to invest aggressively in our member experience and diverse revenue streams in order to realise the long-term potential of our vision,” said Steve Sordello, CFO, LinkedIn.
