Nintendo sells 3m Wii U units – predicts sales decline

30 Jan 2013

Japanese gaming firm Nintendo has predicted a profit of US$87m for the third quarter. However, it sold only 3m units of its new console the Wii U during the quarter.

Despite the launch of Nintendo’s newest console – which it sells at a loss – the company is predicting 17pc lower revenues.

Flagship products like the 3DS are still selling well, with up to 29.8m estimated to have been sold during the third quarter.

The original Wii console is understood to have sold around 100m units in the quarter.
