6 Jul 2004

Dublin software company Norkom has completed a contract to deploy a risk management/business intelligence technology solution for one of Europe’s largest financial institutions Fortis Bank, which has a market capitalisation of €23.6bn.

The project involved the deployment of Norkom’s flagship technology Alcemist, which allows financial institutions to improve their defences against all kinds of risk, including money laundering, credit and debit card fraud, operational risk and other kinds of financial crime.

The software will be used to support Fortis’ operations in a number of countries, with the initial focus on Belgium and the Netherlands.

Norkom won the contract as part of a joint team involving Fortis Bank and IT consultancy Cap Gemini.

Fortis, which is active in the fields of banking and insurance, employs 53,000 people and is ranked as one of Europe’s top financial institutions.
