More than 1 million downloads are taking place in the Ovi store from around the world, barely a year after the app store debuted, according to Nokia.
The Ovi Store, the centralised application shop for programs fit for Nokia devices that the company debuted in May 2009, is also being rebuilt, Nokia VP of Product, Media George Linardos has said.
The one-stop app shop is due to be launched this spring. In early December, Linardos had reported that Ovi Store download numbers were increasing 100pc month-on-month. Indeed, news earlier this week indicated that the Ovi Store recently overtook Apple’s App Store in territories such as Asia and Latin America, however, Nokia-carrying AT&T customers in the US only received access to Ovi Store early January 2010.
For comparison’s sake, Apple’s App Store went from 2 to 3 billion app downloads in three months, which means it serves more than 10 times the amount of apps per month than the Ovi Store.
