Anthony Bay, music-streaming service Rdio's new CEO

Music-streaming service Rdio has appointed the former global head of Amazon’s digital video division Anthony Bay as its new CEO.

Bay replaces Drew Larner, who is moving on to serve as vice-chairman for the company and as strategic adviser to its board of directors.

Janus Friis, founder of Rdio and co-founder of VoIP (voice over internet protocol) provider Skype, said Bay will be responsible for increasing the number of Rdio’s free users and paid-for subscribers, The Next Web reported.

This would be in the face of competition from other music-streaming providers, such as Spotify and Deezer.

Bay’s professional background also includes stints at Microsoft, where he developed media tech, and at Apple, where he led its Online Services.
