Riordan to take over the reins at Smart

11 Jan 2007

Calally Ltd, the investment company that is in the process of acquiring 100pc of the assets and liabilities of beleaguered telco Smart Telecom, has appointed John Riordan chairman, chief executive and president.

The appointment will be effective from 3 February 2007.

Riordan is a former chief executive officer, chairman and president of UPC. He was formerly chairman and chief executive of Princes Holdings and part-owner of Irish cable company Chorus.

Smart Telecom’s acting chief executive Ciaran Casey is leaving the company. Smart Telecom director Brian Timmons has also announced his intention to leave the company once the acquisition by Calally, which was approved by Smart shareholders at an EGM in October, has been completed. This is expected to be done in the first quarter of this year. An application has been made to delist Smart Telecom from the AIM in London.
