Samsung Display has moved to quash reports that it’s planning to terminate its contract with Apple and will no longer supply LCD panels for Apple as the rift between the two companies widens.

According to the Korea Times, a senior source says Samsung plans to cut business ties with Apple because it is no longer making money due to a stiffer supply chain management structure imposed by Apple. The decrease in margins was understood to have become quite pronounced during production of the iPhone 5.

However, CNET reported that Samsung has denied the report as 100pc untrue and it has reached out to the newspaper to revise its report.

The newspaper report suggested Samsung intends to replace the Apple business with orders from Samsung’s Mobile division and Amazon.

Samsung last year shipped 15m LCDs worldwide, followed by LG, which shipped 12.5m and Sharp, which shipped 2.8m displays, according to DisplaySearch.
