Mobile sports content company Setanta Media has announced that it is to provide AT&T Wireless in the US with a range of sporting content which the mobile network operator will deliver to subscribers via its mMode service.
According to Setanta, the deal marks the first full-scale introduction of Setanta Media’s in-depth and personalised mobile sports content to the US sports fan.
The initial launch will consist of UK and European soccer, international golf, F1 racing, and international rugby, providing fans with breaking news, up-to-date scores and statistics, team/player profiles, behind-the-scenes gossip, tables/fixtures and schedules, and feature stories. More context-specific colour photographs and images are also available on compatible handsets.
“Sport is a predominant factor in many people’s lives, and one that often is hard to stay in touch with in a personalised manner, particularly for fans of those sports which may primarily be played at a ‘geographic distance’,” says Setanta’s CEO Frank Cronin. “Working with AT&T Wireless allows us to provide American fans of European sports with in-depth, fun content that has been optimised for mobile users – the way they want their sports entertainment and news, and when and where they want it.”
Setanta Media is the mobile content division of Setanta, the worldwide pay-per-view broadcaster. Based in Dublin, with satellite offices in London and Vancouver, Setanta Media has an annual turnover of almost €3m and a staff of 25. It has signed a number of deals in recent months with network operators in China, Canada and the US.
