Smart signs Ethernet deal to grow Exponential-e

Smart Telecom has entered into an agreement with the network provider Exponential-e that will see the two firms deliver reciprocal connectivity, support and maintenance.

In a statement, the firms said the deal would enable both providers to expand the capabilities of their optical Ethernet networks into each others’ markets. Exponential-e’s managed service is now available nationwide in Ireland, while Smart Telecom customers have direct access to 73 UK cities.

According to Manjit Sidhu, carrier services director with Exponential-e, Ethernet is establishing itself as the de facto standard for enterprise network infrastructure. “Creating strategic relationships with like-minded providers is a priority for us. Smart Telecom was the obvious choice in Ireland since it was the first provider to roll out a national Ethernet network and provide an integrated platform for the delivery of converged services,” he said.

Paul O’Farrell, national corporate sales manager at Smart Telecom, said many of the operator’s corporate customers need to connect to offices in the UK. “Having seen the benefits that our national Ethernet network gives them, they want to have access to those features in the UK,” he said.

This is Exponential-e’s third relationship with an Ethernet provider, having previously done deals with the US Ethernet provider Yipes Enterprise services and TeraGate in Germany.
