Telecoms service company creates 100 jobs

Obelisk, a telecommunications services group located in Cavan, is set to triple its staff with the addition of 100 new jobs over the next year.

Obelisk will be recruiting project managers, engineers, town planners, technical designers, radio planners and facility managers, as well as back-office staff.

“This is great news from an indigenous, successful services group,” said Noel Dempsey TD, Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources.

“Over the past 10 years Obelisk has developed vast experience in building and maintaining networks and enjoys a first-class record in delivering quality services in the telecommunications sector.”

The group provides the acquisition, design, construction and maintenance of telecommunications networks.

These services are supplied to most of the major wireless and telecoms operators throughout Ireland.

As part of their growth strategy, Obelisk has employed the use of intelligent buildings, or “office buildings with telecommunications that allow rapid reconfiguration of the interior layout for a client”.

Obelisk began back in 1997, at first just offering technical infrastructure to the newly-emerging mobile telecoms operators.

Ten years on, the group has expanded to the UK, continental Europe, the Middle East and South Africa, and predicts revenues in the area of €30m this year.

Local politicans have welcomed this job creation as a boost for the economy in both Cavan and Monaghan.

Brendan Smith, a Fianna Fail TD for the area and Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture and Food, said: “We have witnessed a substantial growth in the population of Co Cavan and the provision of jobs for our own people locally.

“This announcement is particularly welcome as they are well paid, professional jobs that Obelisk is bringing to the region.”
