Twitter buys data analysis start-up Lucky Sort

14 May 2013

Twitter has snapped up Lucky Sort, a data analysis company that may help the microblogging site monetise tweets. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Lucky Sort launched its first product, called Topicwatch, last February, Mashable reported. Topicwatch is a visualisation and navigation engine that helps discover patterns in live data streams.

“Two years ago I started Lucky Sort with several friends,” Lucky Sort CEO Noah Pepper wrote in an announcement on Lucky Sort’s website. “Our goal was to make huge document sets easier to analyse, summarise and visualise by building elegant and user-friendly tools for text analysis.”

Pepper added that some of Lucky Sort’s staff members will be moving to San Francisco, California, to join Twitter’s revenue engineering department. Lucky Sort is based in Portland, Oregon.

At the very least, it appears as if Lucky Sort will be shut down as a standalone product.

Pepper wrote that the company will be helping current customers transition off its system in the coming months.
