Ulster Bank registers its 500,000th online customer

Ulster Bank has registered its 500,000th Anytime Banking customer and says 2,100 new online customers are signing up each week.

So far this year, Ulster Bank customers have signed into Anytime Banking 18.3m times. Those customers have completed 35.5m online banking transactions this year so far, which is an increase of 7.6m, or 21pc, in the same period last year.

The bank says that 350,000 Ulster Bank customers now receive their banking statements online in the form of eStatements, saving about 6m sheets of paper per year which is roughly estimated to be equal to 720 trees.

Security and mobility top online banking users’ priorities

In a pioneering move, the bank has made the Online Security Promise, promising to refund customers should they be the victim of fraud despite following security guidelines.

Some 25.53pc of Ulster Bank’s customers rated secure online banking as their top priority, compared with 11.7pc who listed ‘less queueing’ as their top priority.

So far this year, 1m Ulster Bank customers have received balance text messages and last year the bank launched the first free mobile banking app in Ireland for the iPhone and the Bank is now planning the launch of the second release of the app.

From next month, Ulster Bank customers will have even greater access to their accounts from their iPhone as additional functionality, including balance transfers and an Ulster Bank branch locator, the bank said.
