The University of Limerick is to implement a new data storage system based on HP technology to handle its administrative function. The new Storage Area Network (SAN) will allow the university to access, manage and store student and business data in a centralised, secure and cost-effective manner.
The university has chosen HP SAN technology for the operational benefits it can bring. It will allow the university to centralise file storage, thus reducing storage costs, as well as increasing operational efficiency through centralised backup and data management.
HP won the contract following a competitive tender. Together with its partner company Sabeo Technologies, a specialist in high availability and data protection systems, it will implement a MSA 1000 SAN. The SAN implementation will be completed over the coming months and University IT staff will be trained to manage the technology in-house.
