Unum to create 200 software jobs in Carlow

8 Feb 2008

US insurance company Unum is to create 200 jobs at a new software service centre in Carlow, which will predominantly employ graduates.

The task of the new centre will be to provide technology services and quality assurance to its US parent company.

Unum specialises in providing employee benefits and group and individual disability protection insurance.

Around 100 of the jobs will be in place by 2009, with a further 100 due to follow on depending on the project’s success.

Insurance giant Unum last year reported more than US$10bn in revenues.

The Unum investment is welcome news for Carlow following a number of job losses in the town with the closure of Greencore’s sugar operations, Lapple engineering and job losses at Braun.
