UPC Ireland grows total subscribers by 14pc to 945,200

Broadband, communications and digital TV entertainment provider UPC added 22,600 subscriptions to its next-generation services from homes and businesses throughout Ireland in the company’s second quarter to end June 2012, compared to the first quarter of 2012.

Total subscriptions to TV, broadband and phone services for the second quarter increased by 14pc, or 115,400, to 945,200 when compared to the same period a year ago.

“Through our fibre-powered network, we’re constantly driving new developments for our customers with speed increases in our superfast broadband and the launch of UPC On Demand TV,” said Carol Grennan, CFO, UPC Ireland.

“Our market-leading combination of excellent products, service bundles and unbeatable value is really exciting for customers and this will continue to create opportunities for UPC.”

UPC On Demand TV offers customers seven-day catch-up TV from the RTÉ Player and 3player and more than 1,300 hours of box sets and series for free. Additionally, Movies On-Demand can be watched at the touch of a button.

The company also reported a 25pc year-on-year increase in broadband subscriptions, with a total of 283,400 broadband customers.

The number of home phone service customers increased 69pc to 205,800, representing a year-on-year growth in home phone subscriptions, and digital TV drew 333,200 customers.
