Dublin technology services player Version 1 Software has won a public tender to support Athlone Institute of Technology’s (AIT) back-end database needs, covering payroll, finance, student records and library data. The deal also marks Version 1’s 50th customer win for its ProWatch technology solution.
Version 1’s ProWatch solution offers companies complete database and application monitoring and support across multiple technologies. There are a number of options to the basic package that can be tailored to meet customer needs including onsite support, monitoring, maintenance, installations and upgrades. A key aspect to securing the deal was Version 1’s skills in Unix and Oracle technologies.
AIT’s IT manager Pearse Murphy explained: “We were looking for a company with excellent Unix and Oracle experience and found that there were not many companies in the marketplace that could offer both. Version 1 was the clear choice in the end, not only because it had the experience but also because of the quality of its proposal.”
ProWatch is designed for companies that do not have staff levels to justify an onsite IT department or database administrator. Rather than wait until problems arise, ProWatch ensures the system is fully optimised and ready to kick in when a problem arises. “We can manage everything remotely and make sure all systems are running 24/7,” said Kevin Jones, consulting director at Version 1.
