Vodafone Ireland saw its pre-tax profits slide

Pre-tax profits at Vodafone Ireland, the local arm of global telecoms giant Vodafone, fell 14pc last year to €100.2m, according to accounts filed with the Companies Office.

In 2014, Vodafone recorded a €17m drop in profit after revenues slipped 1.4pc from €1.018bn to €1.004bn.

The firm paid a dividend of €80m to its parent company last year.

The company’s overall customer base in Ireland stands at 2.4m and last year it recorded an 18.3pc or 184,000 increase in the number of smartphone users contributing to a 45pc year-on-year growth in data usage.

ARPU rose to €29.90 in the quarter ending 31 March, up 1.8pc on the previous year.

In February, Vodafone said that almost 90pc of Ireland’s population is now covered by 4G.

In recent months Vodafone completed fibre-to-the-premises technical trials with ESB on 300 homes in Cavan, achieving speeds of 940Mbps.

The €450m joint venture with ESB is targeting speeds of up to 1Gbps.
