Vodafone gained 20,000 mobile contract customers during the year, up 5.7pc on last year. As well as this, the mobile operator said it now has 264,000 fixed broadband customers, up 6.9pc on last year.
The strong local results corresponded with overall revenue growth at Vodafone, rising 2.2pc to €11.4bn, with the majority coming from the European market, Italy in particular.
Digital transformation
In recent months, Vodafone Ireland revealed how it has embarked on a major €120m digital transformation project that will unite all the company’s customer management systems under one omni-channel experience for fixed, broadband, TV and mobile.
The company also launched a national Gigabit Hub initiative with Siro, its fibre joint venture with ESB Networks, offering 1Gbps connectivity free of charge for two years across 15 regional towns.
Vodafone said it is the only Irish operator to offer customers full EU roaming data allowances since regulations came into force on 15 June.
“We continue to grow the business, expanding customer numbers across both fixed and mobile,” said Anne O’Leary, CEO of Vodafone Ireland.
“We also continue to focus our attention on supporting the regions and promoting local job growth as we roll out our Gigabit Hub Initiative, with further location announcements coming in the next quarter.
“Additionally, our customers can now roam across 32 European destinations as they would at home, all within their normal allowances and at no extra cost. We are delighted to be the only Irish operator to offer this to all our customers,” she said.
