SSE Airtricity to create 143 call centre jobs in Belfast

12 Aug 2014

Gas and electricity supplier SSE Airtricity is to create 143 jobs in Belfast as it grows its energy retail operations and relocates its customer services centres in the city centre.

The new call centre jobs will be in sales, customer service and administrative support.

Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister Arlene Foster said the new roles will generate an additional stg£2.7m a year for the economy.

Invest NI has offered nearly stg£700,000 of support for the jobs and associated training, partly funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

Stephen Wheeler, SSE Airtricity managing director, said the company chose Northern Ireland because of its talented, youthful, enthusiastic and capable workforce, which has already played a vital role in SSE Airtricity’s business growth to date in the region.

“The support of Invest NI will help us to continue to invest in developing our talent pool with both our existing workforce, as well as for the new roles that we will create,” Wheeler said.

SSE Airtricity currently employs 98 people in two Belfast offices. They are all expected to join the new employees in the company’s new location at Millennium House on Belfast’s Great Victoria Street in September.
