Career memes of the week: aerospace engineer

30 Sep 2014

This week’s career memes gives a cheeky tip of the hat to aerospace engineers, the professionals who design and develop aircraft, spacecraft and related technology.

More specifically, aerospace engineers can work in testing, research and development, or production and maintenance. Their responsibilities may include developing systems such as navigation instruments and communications, researching ways to make fuel-efficient parts, collecting and analysing test data, and even working on air accident investigations.

Aerospace engineers may find themselves working in a variety of places, such as labs, airfields, and manufacturing plants, after obtaining a degree in aeronautical or aerospace engineering, avionics or air transport engineering.

To be successful, aerospace engineers will also require solid math, IT, problem solving, communication, and project management skills, as well as excellent technical knowledge.

In Ireland, an aerospace engineer can expect to earn an average annual salary of €44,256, according to Salary Explorer.
