10 memes highlight the career of a Christmas elf

23 Dec 2014

Think you’re busy this time of year? Then spare a thought for Santa’s elves. This week’s career memes take a cheeky look at what their work lives must be like.

What they do: Develop, build, tweak and test toys, gadgets and stuffed animals in Santa’s workshop, maintain a tidy workspace, load the sleigh on Christmas Eve, care for reindeer, prepare reindeer for long-haul flights, assist Santa in establishing flight paths and schedules, accompany Santa on flights to distribute toys, keep an eye on the GPS during flight, be prepared to respond to descending-down-the-chimney emergencies, maintain watch for any small humans that might awaken during stopovers.

What they don’t do: See you when you’re sleeping, know when you’re awake. That’s the big jolly guy’s job.

Educational requirements: A background in manufacturing would be most beneficial in this position.

Required skills: Communication, creativity/innovation, manufacturing/production, problem-solving, supply chain management, good organisational and planning skills, ability to use tools and meet deadlines.

Salary: Santa does not disclose full elf compensation, but benefits do include shared milk and cookies, as well as worldwide travel.
