HeyStaks to create 20 jobs with €1.5m investment for Irish start-up

28 Jul 2015

HeyStaks – an Irish start-up that analyses smartphone behaviour – is to create 20 jobs as part of a major €1.5m investment in partnership with Digicel.

HeyStaks’ business offers smartphone behaviour analysis in a bid to understand the intent and interests of users with regard to privacy enhancement, allowing mobile operators to track consumer trends while respecting individuals’ right to anonymity.

This recent development for HeyStaks was facilitated by the €1.5m investment, which was led by Digicel, with whom HeyStaks has been working since 2013 having first founded the company back in 2008.

Previous investments totalling €1.8m were made by The Ulster Bank Diageo Venture Fund, the AIB Seed Capital Fund and Enterprise Ireland.

The new round of funding will allow for the creation of between six and 10 new hires within the next six months and up to 20 within a year in a combination of commercial and technical roles.

Based at NovaUCD, HeyStaks is a University College Dublin (UCD) spin-out company from the Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) funded Clarity Centre for Sensor Web Technologies, now part of the Insight Centre for Data Analytics.

Dr Maurice Coyle, co-founder and CEO of HeyStaks, said of the announcement: “Mobile devices are central to peoples’ daily lives and every time we use them we give clues about our current intent, needs and wants.

“The new funding will help us build the team to support our growing list of global customers within a massive, growing market of mobile data analytics. While the new funding is hugely important to us as a company, having an innovative and ambitious strategic partner like Digicel will be transformative to our future.”
