130 pharma jobs in Dublin and Cork with Pfizer investment

23 Oct 2015

Pfizer is bringing 130 new jobs to sites across Dublin and Cork, which will bring its total employee base in the country to well over 3,300.

With manufacturing sites at Grange Castle (Dublin), Ringaskiddy and Little Island (both Cork), Pfizer’s pharma operations in Ireland are clearly significant.

The six sites owned by Pfizer cover shared services, R&D, treasury and commercial operations, with the latest jobs to be added across its manufacturing division.

Cork requirements

The Ringaskiddy and Little Island sites are looking for process operators, mechanical and electrical/instrumentation craft, process engineers, process chemists, and quality control analysts.

“Pharmaceutical manufacturing in Ireland continues to perform well, contributing strongly to exports and economic growth, and providing good careers and jobs,” said Dr Paul Duffy, VP at Pfizer.

“Students should give strong consideration to studying STEM subjects, all of which provide a route into pharmaceutical manufacturing.

“This provides a good career path but also provides a chance to be part of delivering innovative medicines to patients to help treat devastating diseases,” he said.

The fact that the jobs are spread across Cork as well as Dublin is obviously a boon to the economy’s need for regional growth, with Conor Healy of the Cork Chamber saying: “Today’s announcement is testament to the great work of the management and team of Pfizer in Little Island and Ringaskiddy over the last number of years.

“Today’s news provides confidence of continuing investment by Pfizer who have been a major contributor to economic growth and employment in the Cork region since 1969.”

Grange Castle is looking to recruit around 90 people across areas like process scientists, process/equipment engineers, automation engineers, operations specialists, process technicians, QAs and project managers.

This is the second bout of good news for people seeking careers in the science field in two days, with yesterday’s news of Grifols setting up in Ireland also a boon to the Grange Castle area in South Dublin.
