Spearline Labs bringing 20 IT roles to Skibbereen

6 Nov 2015

Spearline Labs is bringing 20 jobs to Skibbereen, with the west Cork town soon to home a range of software and support roles that will double the company’s currentworkforce.

Spearline Labs is looking to fill positions in software engineering, support, international sales and finance as the testing company continues its expansion, with a client base including numerous Fortune 100 companies.

The company is currently investing over €1million in new products which will be ready for market from early next year and will represent one third of the company’s revenue by 2017.

The primary focus of this investment will be on mobile line testing which will further broaden the company’s offering.

Big day

“Today is a big day for Spearline Labs and for the west Cork region in general,” says Kevin Buckley, CEO of the company.

“With 20 people from five different countries already employed here we are excited about finding new colleagues to fill roles across a number of areas,” adds Buckley, whose company was awarded a Deloitte Fast 50 award this year.

Google, one of Spearline Labs’ main clients, seems pretty happy with the expansions plans, with Ronan Harris, the tech giant’s Irish head, noting the move outside of Dublin is a positive for Ireland in general

“Spearline Labs is a great example of how smaller businesses can grow in a way which has only become possible with the development of new technologies and the internet,” says Harris.

More to Skibbereen… soon

Grand plans are in place for the region in general, with a new digital hub for Skibbereen in Cork is seeking to create 500 new jobs over the next five years, with an initial 75 or more jobs guaranteed in the start-up phase.

The refurbished Old Bakery building, which will be renamed Ludgate@Skibbereen, was made available for the initiative by local entrepreneur John Field and is due for completion this month.

“This is the biggest jobs boost for Skibbereen in many years, and the fact that it has happened in an Irish tech company is a great endorsement of what can be achieved out of our own resources,” adds Richard Bruton, Minister for Jobs.
