It’s a particularly good start to 2016 for Oracle in Dublin with the news that the tech giant is to create 450 jobs in the city as part of a worldwide recruitment drive for 1,400 new staff.
Having been around since 1977, Oracle has established itself as one of the largest tech companies in the world, offering a range of cloud and platform applications at a time when we’re on the crest of a huge analytical wave in business.
Company founder Larry Ellison once said that, as a company, they “have more SaaS [software-as-a-service] than anybody else”.
In the last six months alone, Oracle added nearly 1,500 new software-as-a-service (SaaS) customers and more than 2,100 platform-as-a-service (PaaS) customers.
Having been in Dublin for the past 30 years, its offices are based in EastPoint Business Park in the Dublin docklands. Oracle has five Irish offices in its campus covering the entire EMEA region in terms of its sales division, as well as its product and systems development divisions.
The company currently boasts 420,000 customers, including 100 of the Fortune 100 list across 145 countries and has been buying up similar companies to expand its service over the last few years, such as Micros, which offers software and hardware for hoteliers.
Announcing the news today (14 January), Oracle says the 450 jobs announced for Dublin is part of an EMEA recruitment drive to hire 1,400 cloud sales professionals in the region.
As part of this announcement, the company says it is keen to draw recruits with a range of experience from across the EMEA region, from sales professionals with two to three years’ experience to highly-experienced senior sales professionals.
Greatly enhance Ireland’s reputation for cloud computing
Following a successful 2015, Oracle’s move to recruit 1,400 staff comes after a multi-billion dollar investment in developing the most complete portfolio of cloud computing services.
Speaking at the launch at the company’s Dublin office this morning, Dermot O’Kelly, senior vice-president for Oracle UK and Ireland, said: “This is an opportunity for ambitious people who want to be a part of the incredible cloud story happening at Oracle in Ireland and right across EMEA.
“This is a great opportunity for people with a passion for selling the cloud or a burning ambition to do so who want to further their career with the company that is doing the most to shape cloud and the way it serves innovative businesses around the world.”
Adding to this sentiment was the CEO of IDA Ireland, Martin Shanahan, who added: “Oracle’s presence here for over 30 years forms part of Ireland’s strong ICT sector. This important announcement of 450 new cloud computing roles will greatly enhance Ireland’s reputation as a location of choice for cloud computing.
“IDA Ireland is focused on identifying opportunities for new and existing clients and developing Ireland’s ability to become a world leader in the cloud.”
