Customer support firm Abtran creating 130 jobs in Cork

1 Feb 2016

Following the signing of a deal with Sky, the Cork-based customer support company Abtran has announced it’s to hire 130 new staff.

The deal made with media giant Sky is quite a coup for Abtran, which currently employs 2,000 people across Cork and Dublin.

Abtran says these roles will begin being filled immediately, in a move that Sky says will help with its growing business in Ireland where it remains one of the largest players in the pay-for-TV market.

Last November, Abtran concluded a funding deal with Carlyle Cardinal Ireland (CCI) to invest in the company, in what was seen as its aim to expand further internationally with larger clients.

At the announcement this morning, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney TD, said: “I’m delighted to welcome these new jobs in Cork where Sky has chosen Abtran as its business process partner for customer service operations.

“Both companies are leaders in their respective industry sectors and both are committed to the highest standards of quality and customer service delivery. I particularly welcome the continuing growth of Abtran, which is a deeply innovative and impressive Irish business and I wish both companies ongoing success in the future.”

The announcement of 130 jobs follows the company’s previous announcement in July of last year that it was to create 100 customer support jobs as part of an expansion of its consulting and technology services division at the IFSC in Dublin.
