Online home decor company Wayfair is dramatically expanding its Galway operations, with a new facility to up its employee count by 160.

Almost doubling the company’s workforce, the expansion at Wayfair will include positions in: customer service; inbound sales; business account management; finance; supplier operations; business analysts; recruitment, training and IT services.

Supported by IDA Ireland, Wayfair’s new 30,000sq ft building on Tuam Road will replace its Mervue Business Park site, with the e-commerce site planning to use the added workforce to deliver growth right across Europe.

Outstanding Galway team

Its multilingual operations centre will help Wayfair “redefine the way people shop for their home”, according to Liz Graham, vice-president of sales and services at the company.

“In Galway, we have built an outstanding team of dedicated professionals who are focused on ensuring the Wayfair e-commerce experience is stellar from start to finish,” added Graham.

“Our existing Galway team has been instrumental in providing Wayfair customers with an outstanding shopping experience. We are delighted to expand that team with more top-notch professionals in the area as we scale our operations to keep pace with rapid growth of our business.”

Last March, IT firm Ipswitch opened up its EMEA HQ in Galway, with 60 jobs to be created over the next five years – this number representing a major chunk of its global workforce.

A few weeks earlier, Alere, a Galway-based medtech firm specialising in medical diagnostics, announced it’s to create 40 jobs at its plant in Ballybrit.
