‘App Campers’ to be kitted out with MacBook and iPod touch

17 Mar 2011

Budding entrepreneurs and developers from across Ireland have been invited by Belfast software company Kainos to take part in Ireland’s first App Camp. Those who make the grade will be equipped with MacBook and iPod touch devices which they get to keep.

Open to first-year IT students, the eight-week camp aims to attract those who genuinely want to develop their programming skills and help young, burgeoning talent turn creative ideas into fully working apps which will be officially launched on Apple’s App Store.

The App Camp also offers the added bonus of opening doors to a long-term career with Kainos.

Those lucky enough to be selected for the camp will be based at Kainos’ headquarters in Belfast, where they will receive formal training and mentoring from its team of award-winning technical experts, covering everything from hardware and software to graphic design and marketing.

The students will be equipped with their own Apple MacBook and iPod touch, which they will be entitled to keep after camp to carry on their development work.

Developed as part of its commitment to Momentum’s Bring IT On initiative, Kainos regards the App Camp as the perfect opportunity to promote the opportunities offered by a career in IT.

“When it comes to talent, Kainos always looks forward,” explained Tom Gray, chief technology officer at Kainos.

“We’ve designed this exciting new programme specifically to hothouse the brightest and best talent out there. We want to encourage the development of programming skills in NI and in doing so, help create and support the next generation of tech entrepreneurs.”

Gray also hopes the students will regard the camp as a career-development opportunity as the company is always on the lookout for talented recruits.

“Our business has developed steadily over the past few years and to grow further we need to recruit positive, ambitious, ‘can-do’ innovators who have a genuine passion for IT services and technologies – just like the rest of our team,” added Gray.

“The App Camp is a fantastic way to engage with bright, young graduates – to find out first-hand what they can do, while showing them more of what we are about at Kainos and all of the opportunities they could avail of by working for us after they graduate.”

The deadline for applications to the App Camp is 15 April and further details are available online.
