A PhD – doctor of philosophy – is the highest post-graduate academic degree universities award candidates who have completed at least three years of graduate study and a dissertation. In other words, PhD candidates work with a thesis supervisor to produce a body work that is comprised of research they have carried out, analysed and written up themselves.
