Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) has appointed Dr. Paul Dodd as head of industry-research development. In this new role, Dodd will be responsible for co-ordinating all SFI award programmes involving industrial collaborations. This includes the Centres for Science, Engineering and Technology (CSET), Strategic Research Clusters (SRC) and Principal Investigator Industry Supplement programmes. Prior to joining SFI in 2005 as a scientific programme officer in the ICT Directorate, Dodd has previously been engaged in R&D in both academic institutions and industry. He has held research appointments at both Trinity College Dublin and Queen’s University Belfast. Immediately prior to joining SFI, Dodd worked for leading data-storage company Seagate Technology, both in R&D and process engineering management roles. While in R&D, he co-ordinated Seagate’s European Universities funding programmes. His research background is in nanoscale material science and device physics.
