Datalex, EY and Amazon have, between them, announced plans for 870 jobs this week, with the vast majority destined for the Irish capital.
At the start of the week, some exciting news emerged from Amazon, with the e-commerce giant revealing it would up its headcount in Ireland by 500, adding to the 2,200 people it already employs in the country.
It recently emerged that the company has agreed to rent the massive new Vertium Building on Burlington Road in Dublin 4, which is currently under construction.
The highly-skilled new roles currently being recruited include: software development engineers; network development engineers; data centre engineers; support engineers; systems engineers; optical deployment engineers; security specialists; big data specialists, DevOps engineers, and a range of technical management positions.
EY, for its part, is upping its staff numbers in Ireland to more than 2,000, after news that it was looking to hire 270 people on the back of new office openings in Dublin and Galway.
In addition to hiring 25 people for its new Galway office, EY will also increase its footprint in Limerick – 220 of the new jobs will be comprised of new hires, with the remaining 50 being graduate positions.
The third major announcement came from Irish company Datalex, which is enjoying a business boom at the moment. With several bases around the world – Beijing, Atlanta and Manchester, for example – it will hire 200 people worldwide.
With half of that landing in its Dublin office, it made for a busy week of jobs announcements.
1. Datalex expansion bringing 100 roles to Dublin
A major global expansion by travel software firm Datalex will see 200 jobs created, half of which will be located in the company’s refurbished Dublin offices.
2. EY opening Galway and Dublin offices
Professional services firm EY is expanding its presence in Ireland with new offices in Dublin and Galway, along with the creation of 270 jobs over the next 12 months.
3. STEM internship programme for teachers begins
Accenture Ireland has launched a pilot internship scheme that aims to help trainee teachers pass on the knowledge of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects by giving them hands-on experience working in various STEM roles.
4. Amazon to create 500 new jobs in Dublin
E-commerce and cloud giant Amazon is creating 500 new tech jobs across a number of its facilities in Dublin. Amazon already has 1,400 employees spread across facilities in Dublin and a further 800 people employed in Cork.
5. Cork schoolkids showcase entrepreneurial expertise
The Junior Entrepreneur Programme (JEP) saw Cork primary school students show off some of their 40 different products this week to celebrate the nationwide project.

Most secondary schools in Ireland finish up for the summer today and, as the long school holidays stretch ahead, parents’ thoughts are no doubt turning to how they will keep their kids occupied during the summer months.
