Dublin City Council signs deal with Energia for Fr Collins Park’s green energy

Dublin City Council (DCC) has signed a deal with energy provider Energia for the excess renewable energy produced by wind turbines in Fr Collins Park in Donaghmede, Dublin.

The 2.5-year power purchase agreement will see Energia, one of Ireland’s largest energy suppliers, buy from DCC the excess electricity generated by the park’s five 50kW wind turbines. Energia will then supply this renewable energy to homes and businesses across the country.

Energia’s current wind-energy output from both its own wind-energy turbines and those from third parties stands at 600MW. This output will increase by a further 300MW with the additions of the five turbines in Fr Collins Park and other wind projects the company has in development.

“The park’s wind turbines are a really great way of showing the public how renewable energy is produced and how wind turbines work in providing energy for the park,” said Kieran O’Neill, senior executive landscape architect with Dublin City Council.

Energia also supplies electricity for public lighting to most county councils and many local authorities in Ireland, as well as the central government offices and non-commercial public bodies.
