Green Party tweets for hybrid/electric campaign car

26 Jan 2011

The Greens tweeted last night, asking if Twitter could crowdsource a low-emissions car so they could rent it out in the next few weeks in the run up to the election.

With the Green Party taking to the roads in the next few weeks to canvas for the upcoming election, a hybrid car would certainly seem to be an apt avenue for them.

A general election was first called for by the Green Party in November 2010.

Perhaps one of the eight electric Mega e-City vehicles that are cruising around the Aran Islands would be a good option for the Green Party right now?

The Mega e-City vehicles are part of a pioneering EU-wide sustainable living initiative that’s running for three years on the Aran Islands. The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) came up with the idea for the electric vehicle (EV) project and has developed it with the EV supplier Green Machines.

The project aims to showcase how the three islands can be a viewed as a micro version of the island of Ireland in their approach to sustainable driving.

The Mega e-City has no exhaust and emits zero emissions when driven so it would certainly fit in with in the Green’s criteria.

These cars are being driven by islanders at the minute, with their charging patterns and electricity usage being monitored and managed through a smart-metering system. The cars are charged primarily during the night.
