Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland have each ordered half a dozen wind turbines for next year.
The turbines will come from German company Nordex – the country’s fourth largest turbine maker after Enercon, Siemens and REpower – and the order falls in line with Nordex’s long-standing working relationship with Renewable Energy Systems Ltd (RES) and the Electricity Supply Board (ESB) respectively.
Co Limerick will have six of the N90 units at ESB’s Grouselodge wind farm installed by Nordex while Co Derry will be the location for the North’s order of six N80’s.
The news comes on the back of the EirGrid report –The EirGrid Annual Renewable Report – which says Ireland is playing a lead role in Europe by adding wind power and other renewable energy sources to its grid.
