It appears Tesla won’t be the only cool electric vehicles (EV) company in town after German manufacturer Porsche revealed its Mission E, a futuristic sports car with super-fast charging.
Despite its rather naff name, the Mission E certainly appears to be eyebrow-raising based off the first, albeit illustrated, images.
The concept car is a five-door machine with, oddly, four single seats for driver and passengers and is clearly designed as a sports car with its 440kW (600hp) engine and four-wheel drive.
Unsurprisingly, acceleration will be rather fast on the EV, achieving 100km/h in just under 3.5 seconds and 200km/h in 12 seconds.
The company said its Porsche Torque Vectoring – which automatically distributes torque to the individual wheels – makes it more efficient in terms of speed and control having completed the infamous Nürburgring in under eight minutes.
The real gauntlet thrown down to Tesla, however, is its charging and range, with Porsche claiming that on a single charge the Mission E can achieve a range of 500km.
This would give it just a little more than the average top range of Tesla’s Model S.
Likewise, Porsche said that its battery, when using its new 800v Porsche Turbo Charging system, can get up to 80pc charge – or 400km in range – in just 15 minutes.
Of course, the most expensive EVs these days can’t just have some fancy tech under the hood as Porsche also revealed its new holographic display system.
The control system consists of two three-dimensionally structuring layers with the upper layer showing the driver’s display while the second holographic display extends far into the passenger’s side.
The car will also be a part of the internet of things (IoT), with updates and diagnostics controllable from a smartphone and tablet.
Interestingly, friends and family can also be given a ‘digital key’ to gain access to the car once they have been authorised.
