New efficiency system rolled out in northwest US

28 Oct 2010

A new energy rating system has been developed and has come into effect this month in the US.

The new rating systemEnergy Forward, developed by Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance, is an alternative to the current Energy Star rating system.

Energy Forward rates electronics that are at least 30pc more efficient than the Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star rating system, which was designed to save consumers money and protect the environment through energy efficiency and practices.

Efficient domestic devices

The new rating system will feature on efficient TV sets, desktop computers and monitors that are said to be exceeding the standards of Energy Star.

Participating retailers will display a bright orange button guiding shoppers to electronics that are the most energy efficient.

The energy rating system is currently being rolled out in the northwest US and a list of retailers that will supply the rating system and electronics that bear the sticker can be found here.
